When Bubba was injured in China at the UCI Worlds we had just found out about MedjetAssist but like all of us we procrastinated and had not signed up. The quote we got to bring him from China to a hospital at home in Arizona was $125,000. Instead, he had to stay in China with a question of whether or not his insurance would even pay for his hospitalization in China, and the doctors there actually discussing amputation of his foot. Then after $5000 in airline Business Class upgrades , he was able to come home. Had he already been signed up, he would have come home in a medically equipped and staffed aircraft immediately…..at no additional charge above the original signup fee of $250 / yr. Needless to say…he carries his MedJet Card with him now…wherever he goes.
This isn’t something that only BMXers should have, but anyone that travels away from home. There are family plans as well as individuals.

The 2010 season kicked off this past weekend and our riders and trainers had a great a start!
BUBBA was there, ready for 2010, and with the news of a new baby on the way. Yes BUBBA AND KASEY having a baby!! Crazy but true…longtime BMX couple. So if you were in the baby pool at the wedding stay posted…..
Ok, back to racing, Saturday was a great day, after a couple of years of the injury’s “Black Cloud” he saw some light , and that light was in the first turn in the ELITE MAIN. Going in hot and doing the typical BUBBA thing in the turn which is lookin’ for the smallest hole to dive thru, well he found it , as Matisons’s front wheel washed and he went down leaving that hole and BUBBA came out with Donny right on his tail followed by Graves
DAY 1: 1ST BUBBA, 2ND DONNY, 3RD GRAVES.
Sunday, with a rough start, and having 14 points, BUBBA thought he had too many points to move on to the Semi… well maybe a little luck IS headed his way… made it in and qualified to the ELITE MAIN…
Tough main as they all are and KYLE looked great coming out and killin’ it, Graves in second and BUBBA in third. Things looked good, BUBBA was thinking about trying to get GRAVES, and here comes DONNY for the swoop in the last turn, even the best can get a clinic.. so put BUBBA DOWN FOR A 5TH
DAY 2: 1ST KYLE, 2ND GRAVES, 3RD DONNY, 4TH SAM, 5TH BUBBA.

Long time trainer DEAK BROWN, A PRO , came out of turn one on Sunday after a cloud of dust, and even to his surprise dodged the bikes and bodies, to go on to take the big win, with SUPERCAMP trainer LEE LEWIS diving in the last turn for second…. so yes SUPERCAMP TRAINERS 1st and 2nd on day two of 2010 season opener.
So, if you want to tune up skills before Guthrie, we will be in Steel Wheels indoor this coming weekend, January 16 and 17, 2010… times 10am-3pm….

This is Bubba’s second stint as a racer for Answer Products as he raced for the brand as a pre-teen back in the 90’s before going on to his previous longtime sponsor Redline Bicycles.
Bubba will make his Answer BMX pro debut at the ABA Winter Nationals in Phoenix AZ on March 6-8 2009.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Bubba as our Pro for Answer BMX as he continues his comeback from a devastating ankle injury in China and additional injury at the Olympic Trials last summer. Bubba had surgery Friday on the foot that he injured in China in August 2007. He has been suffering a HUGE amount of pain with every step much less pedal he has taken over the last 8 months since he got back on his bike. Now we know why......Other than the fact that his injury was so very severe that the doctors wanted to amputate his foot in China, the surgeon here at home removed approximately 3" of bone fragments that were inside his ankle joint! Check out how big some of those pieces are! OUCH!! He is taking some time out to recover from his surgery and get not only his surgery ankle healed but his newly broken other ankle healed as well all at the same time. Only true determination, drive, and the love of BMX kept him racing everyday no matter how bad it hurt. We hope to see him soon back out on the track fully recovered!!
West Palm, FL: In what could only be compared to a roller coaster at Disney World, Bubba Harris’ weekend in Florida was definitely thrilling, with lots of ups and downs, and finished up on Sunday with a big smile - and the thought of “let’s do it again.”
FRIDAY: In the motos, Bubba was lookin’ close to his old self, making passes to the front and working the dog-legged last straightaway rhythm section like he owned it. Passing riders on the outside line; while most chose the shorter, inside route. But Harris is still lacking power out of the gate, and he’s the first to admit it. His first four cranks still need some work; as shown in his quarter main - where he found himself going in to the first turn in 7th place. And with Randy Stumpfhauser in front of him, there was no way to get by the wily veteran of AA-pro who has incredible sense to block every move Bubba had up his sleeve. His day ended there.
And that wasn’t even the craziest downhill of this wild roller coaster of a weekend.
Later that night, Bubba was hit hard with the flu. Whether it was something he ate or a bug he caught on the long plane-ride to Florida, the only thing he was going to do on Saturday was the try to keep anything down.
Lucky for him, it must’ve been a quick 24 hour bug, and incredibly on Sunday - he showed up at the races feeling a hundred times better and was ready to rock. For the 3-time ABA No.1 Pro and former UCI World Champ, Harris and his Flight Pro XXL signature bike have had a lot to prove since his dislocated foot injury last August. It’s been a long road to recovery, and only now, 6 months later, is he finally feeling close to 100%. The climb back to just making a main event has been both a physical and mental struggle.
While Friday’s motos were a good indicator that he’s close to bein’ the ol’ Bubba that the entire sport of BMX has come to love, Sunday’s semi was the biggest confidence booster. Lined up in the gate with seven other guys who could very well be in the Olympic main event, our Redline hero came from mid-pack to pass thru traffic, got up to the front and wound up with a win that should worry his competition. “Bubba’s back!” was stated by more than just a couple of spectators. Although it was just a semi, a win against these guys was all he needed to get the burst of confidence and adrenaline, to know that he actually can do it again.
In the main, it was the classic Bubba Harris comeback that has made him a BMX legend at 22 years of age. Still lacking that first-straight power, he entered the first turn in 6th place but began working and weaving his way toward the front. By turn two, he had powered back up to third place with the Intense dynamic-duo of Herman and Caluag in front. With one of those patented high-low dives that thousands of kids have been taught at a Pro Supercamp clinics, Harris took advantage of the last straightaway rhythm (his specialty) and took over the lead to nab his first Elite win in over a year!
You can only guess how much it meant to the former 3-time Champ to once again stand atop the podium; raising a big check above his head. And now that he’s got his “Kingston” - and now that he’s proved to himself that he can win again - now with renewed confidence … you’d better watch out.
Our Redline hero just proved to everyone, that “it ain’t over yet!”
